Meet Isaac Hubley, one of our newest Do'ers!

Introduction

Hey y'all!

I'm Isaac, and I'm based in Nashville, TN, and I'm originally from NYC. I’m a big ol' foodie, home cook, and sports & movie buff. My fiancée Athena and I got engaged in March, and we've got an adorable four-legged menace named Pebbles, who zooms around the house.

Describe your journey to DoiT!

My journey to DoiT was a bit unusual. I actually had previously collaborated with DoiT for nearly two years, working with an agency partner and managing DoiT’s public relations workflow. From this vantage point, I had an opportunity to witness DoiT’s values in action, along with its outstanding company culture. When an opportunity opened up to come in-house, I jumped on it.

What’s one thing you’ve worked on that you’re really proud of?

(It doesn't have to be work-related)This bleeds into my next answer, but I love trying new restaurants and am downright methodical in my approach. Having lived in Nashville for the past 4.5 years, I’ve tried over 300 local restaurants, which I’ve documented in an exhaustive, extensive list with details on exactly what I ordered and what I would get if I went back. I’ve adapted this approach to cooking (my other passion) with a not-nearly-as-thorough list of recipes my fiancée and I have made together and notes on what to tweak/improve.

What do you like to do outside of work?

As you might guess, based on my previous answer, I love food! If I’m not grabbing a bite or a drink at the newest hole-in-the-wall in town or approaching hour three in the kitchen working on something spicy, I’m probably curled up on the couch with my dog, watching a movie that probably doesn’t have a happy ending.

Why did you feel like DoiT was the next step for you?

I spent the first 6 years of my career on the agency side, supporting a variety of clients (mostly in the tech space). Though I loved the variety, I often wished I could go deeper into the work and move from understanding a brand to living and breathing its values. With DoiT, I had the chance to do that for a company where I was already familiar with what they stood for and could feel confident I was working for a team I believed in.

Can you describe your onboarding experience so far?

My onboarding has been extremely smooth. In my first two weeks, I spoke with dozens of team members to build my domain expertise and learn about the different teams and functions. On day twelve, I achieved a FinOps practitioner certification, which helped accelerate my capability to contribute from an early stage.

What are some of the most important lessons you've learned throughout your career?

Some key lessons I’ve learned include:

  • Ask questions: Nobody knows everything. The best way to learn is by asking questions; the best way to make others comfortable to come to you with questions is by asking them yourself.
  • Move with confidence: No matter how smart the people around you are, there is something that you know more about than they do. And just like it’s foolish to operate as the expert on all matters, it’s underselling yourself to act like an expert on none.
  • Unplug: When the pandemic first hit, the walls between work and life came down. Suddenly, it wasn’t just feasible but often expected that you would pick up a project at any time of the day. Flexibility is great (and DoiT offers that in spades), but it can’t come at the cost of you shutting down to recharge.

What do you like most about the work we do here?

It sounds counterintuitive to say about a fully remote company, but I’ve never been part of a team that collaborates as well as the team at DoiT. Across the board, everyone is ready to jump in, share their expertise, offer feedback, and keep projects moving. Whether a project calls for a quick proofread, updated data input, or a full sleeve roll, everyone operates with warmth, an eagerness to help, and, above all else, efficiency.
